Southern Missouri Bank of Marshfield and Visa® are working closely together to catch any fraudulent behavior and protect your account. There are also some simple things you can do. And remember, your Visa check card is backed by Visa’s Zero Liability policy, so even if your card or its number is ever lost or stolen, you won’t be responsible for unauthorized charges.

Protect Your Personal Identification Number (PIN):

  • Never write down your pin. Memorize it as soon as you get it.
  • Do not disclose your PIN to anyone. No one from any financial institution, the police or a merchant should ever ask for your PIN.
  • Beware of phishing emails. These are emails that appear to be from your bank or online merchant asking for account information. Do not reply to them or click on any links. Visa, your bank or any other legitimate online merchant will never ask for your PIN or other personal financial information via email.
  • At an ATM or PIN pad, enter your PIN discreetly, shielding the keypad with your hand or body.

Spot Suspicious Activity And Protect Your Account:

  1. Review your monthly checking account statements to spot any unauthorized purchases. You can also monitor your account activity online at any time at https://myonlinebanking.somobank.com.
  2. If you spot any unauthorized charges, please contact us immendiately at 417-859-1292 or 417-859-5592.
  3. Review your credit reports for accuracy. Call any one of the three credit reporting agencies to receive your free annual credit report.
  4. You should contact the three credit reporting agencies listed below to notify them of any suspected fraud or identity theft.

We have recently been notified by Visa that some debit card numbers and PIN numbers may have been compromised due to information theft from the card processor, Heartland Payment Services, in New Jersey. Heartland Payment Services is not affiliated with Southern Missouri Bank of Marshfield in any way. Additional information on this data breach can be found at www.2008breach.com.

For the security of those individuals with compromised cards, we have decided to issue new cards and PIN numbers. When we are notified that a card has been compromised, we will send you a letter of notification. You should receive your newly issued cards and PIN numbers in the mail a few days after the notification.

When you receive your notification, the limit on your debit card will be reduced to $100 per day. This includes any PIN number transactions that you authorize. After about two weeks, we will close the compromised cards. Then you will no longer be able to use the old card. If possible we would appreciate it if you could return the old cards to the bank in person, but at the very least, you should destroy the card by cutting it up before disposing of it.

Please understand that this circumstance in no way affected Southern Missouri Bank of Marshfield, and that the bank had no control over what has happened. However, we are taking these necessary steps to protect you.

In addition, we will review your account for any transactions that seem unusual. However, we strongly recommend that you review your most recent statements and confirm that you recognize all Debit and ATM transactions. In addition, we highly suggest that you review account activity daily through our secure website. If you have not enrolled in our internet banking product (My Internet Banking), then please visit https://myonlinebanking.somobank.com. Also, you may come in to one of our facilities, and we will help you enroll.

We apologize for this inconvenience, but feel that it is in your best interest to take care of this situation as soon as possible.
